He claims that the FSSPX's actions are motivated solely by the desire to save souls and insists that the Fraternity does not seek to replace the Church, but to remain faithful to her. Using the biblical imagery of asking for bread, fish, and an egg (cf. Luke 11:11–13), he says the Fraternity's requests were met with rejection, symbolised by receiving a stone, serpent, and scorpion. According to Pagliarani, the FSSPX had asked to be instructed and confirmed in "the faith of all time", yet was instead declared schismatic for a second time. The Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith published today the procedure for the “reconciliation” with the Vatican of former clergy of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (FSSPX), together with a separate procedure for lay faithful. The procedure, effective July 1, 2026, provides that a priest who has decided to leave the FSSPX must be willing to accept the Second Vatican Council and the “legitimacy of the Novus Ordo Missae,” while remaining attached to the usus antiquior (traditional Roman rite).
